greetings! can you tell me what will remove scotch tape residue of varying thicknesses from a flat sheen painted interior wall?
my darling teen ripped off an entire room of posters, leaving at least 100 little sticky spots. :wall:
have tried already-
goo gone w/micro fiber cloth AND magic eraser...failed
alcohol...failed
wd-40...failed
scraping...crazy ridiculous hard!
grandma is coming next week and staying in this room so it NEEDS to be de-stickified, prepped and painted NOW. please help with your suggestions.
many thank yous!!

I would find some posters of Rock Stars of grandmothers teen years and put them up....just kidding....acetone would be my guess seeing the other attempts didn't work. There is a product called Inhibisol, but I don't think it is available anymore, give the acetone a try.

If nothing else works, I'd hit them with some 60-80 grit sandpaper and spackle over them.
btw- welcome to the forums!

Whether you use a solvent or sandpaper etc the gist of this is you probably will have to remove the upper layer of paint that the glue is on to get rid of it.
That means you will have to fill etc whatever this produces that would show through paint.I'd try Oops or Goof Off as a solvent choices as 1-it's really good at removing adhesives and 2-it's designed to remove latex paint.
Any solvent including the mentioned acetone will also impact the paint. You've tried a variety of thing that wouldn't.
This will be an experiment so try whatever you choose in a small out of the way spot, use a minimum of material, solvents with a rag,and be prepared to fill any areas with spackle that may also need to be feather sanded.
I'm assuming the glue can't just be primed over without it showing through. If that isn't the case I'd certainly try it in a spot.
