Hi,

I'm planning a home addition with rooms that have a 1ft recessed ceiling over the 8ft standard ceiling. I'm thinking to install cove lighting with appropriate molding in the recess. I've seen inexpensive LED rope lights ($229 for 65ft) that could do this.
Do you have any experiences with this? Is the LED rope light bright enough to provide meaningful light? I don't expect full illumination, but there should be some light for ambiance. How do construction codes deal with this? Can I install a switched outlet in the recess to power the rope light? Any other tips and gotchas, are there good instructions in a book or online?

Thanks a lot!

Alex

Code wise I see no issues. Installing a switched receptacle would be the best way to power it. The rope will only provide ambiance lighting.
