Can any dovetail jig work for through dovetail corner joints? I have seen a bunch on craigslist & ebay and noticed that some only have the guide with parallel edges, and the pricier ones have that and guides with the tapered edges.

So what's the deal? I've looked at some video instructions on how to do this and it seems that the tapered guide is essential. Or at least essential to avoiding countless hours with hand tools.
