I am starting a project of building a room over my garage. My question is about the I-beam that I apparently need. Where can I get one of these? I cannoy find any information anywhere. I need it to span 30 feet. Is this something I need to have an engineer look at?

Definitely get an engineer to look at the project. We can't see it, but he can offer sound advice for support, etc. Engineered (Trus Joist, Weyrhauser, etc.) "I" beams can be ordered through local lumber yards or maybe the big box stores.

Thanks, Chandler, I will call one. I was hoping to do this with as little funding as needed. But Id rather be safe than sorry.
