1: Does anyone have any experience, or perhaps a review, with "Georgia-Pacific 1/4" x 5' x 32" Fiberglass-Mat Tile Backer Drywall."

Georgia-Pacific at Lowe's: 1/4" x 5' x 32" Fiberglass-Mat Tile Backer Drywall (http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=41713-51801-NA)

I found this product today, but as it seems to be a new product I didn't want to try it without some input.

2: Do I need to Thinset, or glue, my backer-board to the subfloor? The Home Depot, as well as Georgia Pacific, are instructing me to do this. I was always under the impression that I could just screw (or nail) the backerboard down.

This is my first post on this forum, and I very much appreciate any assistance offered.

Gluing the subfloor along with screwing it will GREATLY improve the durability of the floor. Using Only screws could cause the floor to "pull" in some places, cracking any tile/grout mounted to it. Hope this helps.

Never heard of the stuff. Follow the manufacturers instructions in regards to setting it in thinset and screwed. Don't use any caulking as that would defeat the purpose.

Hey Mark,

It's called DensGuard, made for Lowes and is the same as DenShield.

You don't glue it, you MUSTset it into thinset mortar, fasten, tape etc. Not my favorite CBU, but it'll work. I've used 1/4" Dens once or twice on floors, maybe 10 years ago. I would not use it in my house.

Well hell, I've heard of that, just never used it or seen it. Is that the same product some consumers were complaining about odor? No vapor barrier required behind this product, correct? Thanks for clarifying JAz.
