I have a 2007 Whirlpool electric dryer model# WED58-40SW0

We have been using the sensor mode on this unit but the other day it ran all night. I tried extra low temperature setting and delicates/less dry sensor setting with dry clothes and it keeps running and seems too hot for that setting. I checked the dryer vent and it is clear but I get lots of lint with this machine.

The timer does seem like a possible culprit because I hear a ticking noise on anything but the off setting even when the dryer is off (door open). It also won't advance in timed drying mode (tried for 10 minutes set at next to the stop setting -least time possible).

Anything else I should check?

If its the timer I could try replacing it myself or invoke the extra 12 months on my credit card warranty for a service call repair.

TIA for your help.
