Hello,

I'm new to most DIY projects... I took on one that I thought would be relatively simple. I needed to clean out my tub drain. I have a lift and turn stopper. I removed the stopper then unscrewed and removed the drain to clear the clog.

Between the tub drain and the waste shoe was a gasket and a layer of plumbers putty. I reinstalled the drain, but I'm concerned about leaking. There is no way to detect a leak until it comes through my kitchen ceiling on the first floor.

Since I have zero plumbing experience whatsoever, I'm looking for advice. Does screwing the tub drain back into waste shoe complete the seal? Should I pull it back out and add more putty?

Any advice is appreciated
Thanks
Marshall

If you took it out, then yes, you need to replace the putty. You should be able to tell whether the gasket is still pliable.
