Someone in the house accidentally flushed a towel down the toilet (kind of like a "hand towel" or a large washrag), and then they tried to use a plunger before realizing it was a towel stuck in there. So that toilet is clogged, but the other toilets work, so we know that the towel didn't go TOO far.

I see in the FAQ post that I can use a toilet auger. Never used one of those. Will it actually be able to pull the towel out? Not sure exactly how it would be able to hook onto and grasp the towel. And trying to push the towel through might not be a good idea - couldn't it get stuck further down?

I guess I'll head over to Home Depot tomorrow and check out the augers. Or is there some other device that would be better?

Thanks.

Other choice would be to unbolt the toilet and lift it off, but I would try the auger first. If you have to resort to removal, don't forget a new wax ring.

I would also try a wet vac. The suction maybe enough to grab the towel so that when you pull the hose, the towel will come with it.

Most augers or snakes have a sharp point so that, when you hit the towel and continue turning the auger, it will "screw" itself into the towel. If it won't move the towel, you can release it by turning the auger counterclockwise.
