I have a showerhead that is leaking. I have turn both hot and cold knobs off quite hard but they are still leaking. I think I may need to take the knob off and replace a washer but am not sure. Please help.
Thanks,

Yes the faucet needs a rebuild. The stems need to come out and all gaskets including the ones on the end replaced. You also need to find out if you damaged the seats, the part the washer presses against,by the heavy tightening.
Stems are held in by one or more bushing like parts that must be removed first then the stem itself will unscrew. It may require removing some tile to gain access and a plumbers socket set to get the parts out.
If the washers look chewed up or fail quickly then you need new seats. They are removed with a large L shaped tool that will unscrew them.
The parts must be exact so take the old ones to a hardware store or plumbing supply that sells to the public for a proper match.Go where there will be saleshelp with knowledge. If the stems are damaged they must be replaced and that too must be an exact match.
