Greetings DYIers,
I would appreciate any input here as I feel totally lost and don't know where to start. Google was no help.
Yesterday,I found a leak coming from my water heater (Bradford White 48 gallong 6 years old - not under warranty, i checked!). I looked at it and water was coming from the "space heater outlet" - the plastic cap was blown off and underneath it was what looked like a plastic bag that had a small hole in it and water was squirting out of that whole. I have since cleaned up as much as I could and shut off the water in and out of the heater.
Can someone help diagnose this for me, will I need to replace the heater or can I just put the cap back on?
thank you very much in advance for any replies!!

Sorry dont know what a space heater outlet is. Is this a standalone heater or is it an indirect tank connected to your boiler?

You have a Bradford White Combi water heater, meaning there is a coil inside the tank submersed in the hot water, to use for a small heating loop.
Appears you have a leak in the coil, and since you are not using this function, you may plug the outlets to buy some time however, unless the coil has a manufacturer defect, the tank is probably close to going also.
The two common problems for premature tank failure would be excessive pressure/thermal expansion or water quality.
