I am looking at buying a used kinetico and there is one for sale that is a model 51. It has two small sinle tanks and brine tank. Can anyone tell me anything about this unit? The serial number is 01082847, if that means anything to anyone. I have never had a water softener and I don't know if I will like one, and not sure how long I will live here before moving on, so I really don't want to spend too much $$$. As info, I have 2 1/2 bath and from what I am told by the water company (city water) the water is VERY Hard. I know I will have to have a service call to set the float and make sure I have the correct disk. Thanks for all your help.

Thanks

Scott

Find out what the hardness is. Anything over 3 grains per gallon is considered hard water. Knowing the amount of hardness is very important in proper sizing of the water softener.

I was told it varies between 250 and 300 PPM or 14.6 and 17 GPG.

Thanks

According to your hardness, that uit will work fine. In addition to the salt brine adjustment, it may need a metering wheel (disk) on the top. Can you see what number is on the wheel? Is it grey or orange?

With city water, you should get a chlorine count. Normally, I recommend a carbon filter as a prefilter forthe softener.

I will have to ask what color the disk is. My Chloramines are on average 2.30 PPM, if that is the chlorine level. Currently I am just looking at this model. Any clue as to age? Hope to get one soon.
