I found this hook on the ground in a parking lot and it's just perfect for hanging pots from my pot rack. The trouble is that my local hardware guys have no idea what it is!
Imagine a "J". Now imagine the bumpy side of a cotter pin going down the back side of the "J". (I've got a photo of it, but I can't see how to post it.)
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Just from the description I'd say it's a hitch pin clip with a bend in it to allow it to be placed by hand and pulled down on and that the bend is for your fingers.
If it is that then it would be difficult to find and hardware stores wouldn't have it with the bend.It might be a specialty clip.
I know that the two major fastener sources in this area,Midwest Fastener and Hillman, would not have that item in their assortments. It wouldn't be an Ace item either.

Possibly a welding shop that does a lot of trailer hitches and repairs would be a start to look.
I can visualize the shape..but I've never seen one.
Angella...does it look like it was made that way...or did possibly someone modify it or fabricate it themselves?

It looks like it was made that way. There are no marks that would indicate it had been modified or re-shaped.
I used to work for my dad in his weld shop, and my father-in-law has worked for Hillman for 30+ years, and none of us have ever seen it! I haven't tried a machine shop or a mechanic yet, so I'll try those.
Our county just recently became a windmill farm so I'm wondering now if it's a windmill part...

Well I don't know if this is exactly what that particular hook was being used for....but that is the exact same hook that is supplied with a clip strip for retail.Ever seen at the end of an asile in a store or near the cash register a long strip of a small item like a knife, key box or similar hanging there? The hook that comes with looks just like that....exactly like that.

Okay, I'll add the retail hook to my list of things to check.
It may be an old shower curtain hook - that's what my local hardware store guys thought it was, but it doesn't look like the new ones that they had on the shelf.
Thanks guys!

Got it! It's the clip strip - there's an online place that sells them and has a photo of what I'm looking for in their banner. You can see it if you want to: https://www.clipstrip.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=1&osCsid=oil5nj9438j4r5sk93al7354i2
Y'all are awesome! Thank you so much for the help!
