My house was built in 1979 and now suddenly my shower in the master bath turns on intermittently and won't stay off. It is the kind that you pull out to turn on and turn to left or right for hot/cold. When I push it in to turn it off, it just pops back out and turns on. I have to turn off water to the house to get the shower off. Is this an easy fix? thanks

First and foremost, you have to check your water pressure to see if it is above 60psi.

Replacing the cartridge (probably a 1225B) is the next step.

If the high water pressure is not addressed, other problems will be created.
