Bricks, Masonry, Asphalt and Concrete - How to build a block retainer wall?

We would like to add some dirt to our yard to bring the level up a few inches. We think we will build a short, maybe a foot tall, wall out of these building blocks at Menards. Would it be ok to just put an inch of sand down, then construct the wall?


It will be 2 walls joined by a curved bend. Any advice?

Retaining walls start below grade. Since you only want a foot high, one or two rows below grade would be enough.

The most omportant thing to to set the block on a compacted base the is level. The natural subsoil should be firm. Never set them on concrete.
