waste line under toilet 3" copper - can I use a fernco here? THey make one for a similar application since both pipes 3" inside but thicker walls make the dimensions different. I could use a reducing fiting to go inside the 3" but dont feel this is a good spot for any reduction in water/waste flow......Am I wrong?

I don't know what you are trying to do, are you trying to re-set a toilet?, are you making a tie-in to the line under the toilet? need more info.

daughter had tile floor put in the toiltet had been leaking and the subfloor was replaced. now have to re install toilet. Tile installers put concrete to bring the area up to level of tile. we had cut the hole for installation previously. I've replacced many toilets, never had to install flange, never worked with 3" copper.

If you are trying to replace the toilet flange you can use a Fernco coupling to connect copper to PVC ( IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH DISTANC WHERE IT WON'T INTERFERE WITH THE FLANGE), flange has to be secured to the floor, if that won't work you are getting into re-piping your hook-up, sorry. :(
