hey friends
i had to put on a new ball valve connecting the irrigation line from the house to the pvc pipe coming up from the ground...the problem is that i had to cut the pvc pipe to get everything off to put on the new stuff...the prob now is that i have 2 small drips coming from the ball valve and the threaded pvc pipe leading to a ball valve...i must not have put on enough teflon tape or pipe dope...now i'd have to cut the pvc pipe coming up from the ground again in order to get everything off to make tighter with a better seal...isnt there a union or something i can buy so i dont have to start over each time...in other words, i cant take off any ball valve without cutting the pvc pipe...is this normal?

Check your supplier, you can buy such a union.

Or ask about a compression coupler.

how about a rubber sleeve that has a small band clamp on both sides...can i use one of these between the pvc?

the band clamp will break over time and often leak. You might get lucky and its a simple device to use but its been my experience that they leak.
Do not use pipe dope on PVC, it will break it over time... usually a few weeks.
You can get a PVC union at most big box stores. Just glue it in, let it dry for 12 hours then you can use it. Make sure and secure each side when tightening or loosening or you can break the PVC.
