I have a hanging Modine gas heater in my garage, Model PA30AC. During a storm, the power went out and so did the pilot light on my heater. I turned off the gas, waited about 5 minutes, turned it back on, set the light to pilot, light it and held the reset button the first time for 60 seconds and the minute I let go of the button, the light went out. I did this again for four minutes and again the light immediately went out. Any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot this?

Is the pilot flame completely engulfing the thermocouple tip? Is the pilot flame blue with crisp edges? (Obviously you need to make these observations while holding the pilot button in.)

If yes to these questions then check the connection of the thermocouple to the gas valve for cleanliness and tightness. If this does not solve the problem then try a new thermocouple. If that doesn't work then the pilotstat in the combination gas valve is shot.

I'll get a new thermocouple for the gas valve and see if that takes care of it. Thanks for responding!
