zone 2 of my sprinkler system stays on when it changes to zone 3 and I just put in a new zone valve

What is the make and model of the valve?

It could be the solinoid or an electrical issue in the control box. If there is an extra zone in the box, try moving zone 2 over and see if that resolves the issue. Remember to put time on the new zone.
