I was told my compressor was bad on my A/C unit. My question is if the compressor is bad on a heat pump unit . why do I have heat. I thought the compressor works both sides.

Welcome to the forums! This post may be moved to the air conditioning forum, but here's an answer in the meantime.
You have heat because your heat strips are coming on instead of the compressor doing its job. It is expensive to do it that way. I would have the compressor checked out so it will function properly.
