Hello
I have a galley kithcen about 6' x 15'. It is covered by sheet vinyl. We think the cheaapest and easiest way to cover this stained floor is with vinyl tiles.
HOW: = Use 1/4" hardi or backer board srewed to the floor and fill any dips with a floor leveler on top of the hardiboard. Use a cement the tile company advises with a trowel the cement company advises and spread it as I work and only as much as I can do for the day; all the while installing the tiles as I go. I would butt them so grouting is not required.
Only worry is if there is a spill that the liquid would get under the tile.
Can you help with a couple of tips?
Thank you

I have vinyl tile in my bath and kitchen and love them. You can install these right over your existing floor as long at the flooring is stable. Like not peeling up stuff like that. Also use floor leveler if need be.
You don't need to put down any backer/cement board like you do w/ ceramic tile. I installed over vinyl in my bathroom and it is still down no problems and its been 2 yrs. I add a dab of liquid nails to the corners and one in the center of each tile for added security.
If you spill anything its fine. I have numerous times in the kitchen and no problems at all. Just make sure the tiles are tight up against each other. Start in the center of the room and work out.
Now if you wanna groutable tile there is congoleum(spelling)? I am going to use this stuff in my new laundry room. If you need more tips pm me. I can give you some tips on how we we installed it. I can send pics also if you wish.

Hello
I have reseached this to death and it is a matter of who you talk to.
There are sites that advise against any glue or caulk over the tile and then list many reasons.
Once, I did like you and used tile over concrete with a dab of caulk on each corner; I moved about 6 months later so don't know how it held up.
I hop we get more hits but there aren't too many people here.
You have been very kind but I am going to a flooring place to, pardon the pun, nail this down.
Thanx again.

No problem. I have done the same w/ info I have also recieved on here. Its not a slap in the face. Better be safe than sorry, and it is your money that your spending so again no offense. I just was telling you my experiences and what not. When you are there, take a sec and ask them about congoleum duraceramic. A co worker brought it in so I could look at it. Its great stuff. I did do some research on it and found this website. You can grout it or just glue it down. Comes in 16x16 tile. Very durable, can withstand anything and won't break. Here is the website. Good luck and let us know what you find out. THANKS

Hello
Thank you for the Duracramic referral.
I called that web site but the shipping was expensive so I googled duraceramic and there is a store 20 minutes from my house. I am going to talk with them when I get a chance and hopefully I can get back to you all soon.
