I was just wondering if anyone has some good ideas for warming up a room without painting? My lease states that I cannot paint my apartment. All the walls are white with tan rugs throughout. Add in the neutral colored furniture and it's all very bland.

Any suggestions?

The most dominant color feature in any room is, of course, the wall color. I was faced with a similar problem recently.

Even though the floor is carpeted, area throw rugs could be an option. Also, throw pillows where appropriate. Either drapes or sheers in the window(s) would help. A throw over the back of a sofa is another option. Colorful prints on the wall - either flowers or landscapes is another possibility.

I'm certain others with more experience will be along to offer their thoughts...

One thing I did in preivous apartments - I went to the craft store, got fabric with scenes/patterns that I liked, and stretched it over wood frames using a staple gun- you can either use regular picture frames, or artist frames - they result in a splash of color...

What about an area rug to add the colors you desire? The prices can range, but at least if you can take it with you when you go. If you want to watch your wallet, you may try a resale shop to find a rug or several so you can change it out with the seasons or your mood. Throw pillows and artwork can warm up a space as well as lighting. I have the pink lights in my space and although they are not the new eco friendly bulbs they sure make a difference in the warmth of the room. Plus they make everything look better (at least to me). How about a freestanding screen? Good luck finding what works for you and play with it, that's the fun part!
