Hello all. I like in a house built in 1925 and, as to be expected this time of year, roaches are rearing up. God, they gross me out.

Anyway, I went to the store and examined the various over the counter sprays available but I wonder if anything I can get over the counter is realy as good as what an exterminator would use? Or perhaps I'm focusing on the chemical too much on not enough on its application.

In short, can anyone tell me if it's possible to get the same results using an OTC spray or do I have to pay the big bucks and have a pro do it if I really want to get rid of the roaches?

Thanks.

First you need to id which roaches you have so you know which product will work. This should explain it all.

Well, at least now you know and can use something as simple as boric acid.

Good luck,

I have a good friend in the city who always complains of these. I tell her what I tell all my clients...they love, love love the coolest, darkest, scariest cracks and crevices that they can find in your house. Short of sealing up all access from the exterior (95% are coming right in from outside) there isn't a whole heck of a lot that will control them.

Homes we treat for them, have treatments regularly - proactively and preventatively. Even then, some will get through our defenses in older homes like yours.

Good luck!

I like Niban bait for pests like these. Shake it around the outside near the foundation and you'll stop a lot of them before they ever get in. Works great especially on older homes-you should see results quickly. For other helpful hints, check out this article and see what else may help you.

Good Luck
