Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this site but I have noticed that everyone seems helpful and knowledgeable... So I figured I would give it a try.

I am about to build a patio (22 x 18) using 12in x 12in stones. The Patio will be fenced in with wrought iron.

I am not sure if I should dig the holes and set the post first or do that last?

But the most trouble I am having is with the notion of creating the proper slope for the patio?? I just dont get how to go about making the proper slope. I understand that 1in per every 8ft is adequate. Having said that, Do I figure out the slope when doing the initial excavation and then maintain the slope afterwards when adding the limestone? OR do I find the initial slope and then level the limestone on top of it? It seems like the later stages of the patio process involve having a level surface. I dont understand how the compacted surface can be level yet still have a slope to it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
