I am going to build a 10x20 deck in the next month and want to use some sort of engineered decking, but I have heard not so good things about Trex. What are your thoughts/suggestions?

I looked into this type of decking but found it to be to 'spensive.

TimberTek and Azex have no wood inside. It is all
PVC. Trex and other engineered planks are less expensive. If you want pre-made railings, take out a HELOC.

We went with western red cedar.

I built (myself, 4 years ago) a 30 x 30 Trex deck with 6 x 6 posts, 2 x 2 balusters (?) and 2 x 6 railings, all railing assemblies are cedar, painted white. Go nicely with the gray Trex.
No problems to report, have cleaned it once with a mop and bucket. I blow it off every day to keep leaves and stuff of it...that helps.
