I have a older outboard engine with a tiller handle and I want to convert it into a throttle-contolled setup. Does such a kit exist? What do I need to do?

I went to a boat shop and they acted like it was a big project. I don't understand because it seems like a simple setup, you turn the handle, it turns the pin, which opens up the throttle. I would think that there would be some type of universal setup. Please help!!!!:madhell:

There isn't a universal kit, each brand does it different and models are different as well.

What is the make and model of your outboard.

late 70's early 80's Mercury 6 hp long shaft. It is setup to be used on a alunimum type boat but I've got a 14' 1961 dorsett el dorado that I'm restoring and I've converted it to work with the steering wheel but I can't figure out a way to control the throttle from the front of the boat. Maybe someone has some ideas???
