hello. i have 2 cabinets that i want to put veneer on, some time in the (hopefully) not too distant future. they are birch.
as i don't know what my future holds, i would like to put some kind of color on these cabinets, to hold me over. i was thinking stain. can stained birch be veneered over ? or any other options ?
thanx.

Do they currently have any type of finish on them?

no. bare wood.
i am not looking to make these "finished" or even good looking. i just want to make them a darker color than they are. but, at the same time, i do not want to create problems or extra work, when it comes time to veneer them.

I don't understand why you would want to cover the birch with a veneer:confused:
Applying veneer is a little out of my league but I would think you would need clean raw wood for the adhesive to work well.

my woodworking skills. or lack there of. i had planned to veneer them from the start. so i did not aim for a nice finish on the birch. sides, birch doesn't have a nice grain, to me. they are somewhat large HT subwoofer boxs.
