I bought a new gas water heater last year and never installed it because my current one is still kicking!
Can my new hot water heater deteriorate in any way if I let it sit around for another year or two or till whenever the old one konks out? It's still in the box.
Thank you!! -Tony17112acst

Shouldn't hurt anything as long as all the plugs and caps are left in place.
But..if your old one is more than 10 or so years old, you could prob avoid a big problem (leaks, or no hot water at the worst time), and save some money by installing it now.

The warranty period on the new water heater is from the date you purchased it. If you bought a heater with a six year warranty and waited five years before installing it you would have only one year on the warranty. If it failed eighteen months after installation there would be no warranty coverage.
I agree with Gunguy, install it now and sleep peacefully for several years.

oooooo ...good point. It's my mother's home and it has a dirt floor in the basement, so a leaking heater wouldn't be the end of the world.
I'll plan on installing it overt he Summer. If the answer was that it could start rusting, then I'd do it now, but I'll be getting it in in a few months.
Thanks guys!!! You're awesome! -Tony17112acst
