Hello,

I'm trying to find out what a type of fence is. I was driving down a back road the other day and I saw this beautiful fence that had fence posts that were made up of three or four timbers. They were tided together in sort of a teepee or tripod sort of design, with timber rails between them to make the fence.

I've done some internet searching but I'm unable to find anything that resembles this, let alone something that will give me an idea of how to construct it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

What you saw was an example of early rail fences. The rails are stacked in zig-zag fashion and the tepee configuration locked in the top rails to keep them from falling off.

Thanks for the help. I want to build one and I was hoping to get some good pictures or even better, some instructions. Knowing that it is an early rail fence deffinately helps.

Thanks.

I will post a diagram of how to get started. It may take a few minutes.

Here it is:

Hope this helps. Good luck with your project.
