Doors and Windows - Rough opening for interior doors too short

I have 9 interior prehung split jam doors to install in a new home. My carpenter didnt allow for the for the subfloor, so the height of the rough opening on all doors are only 81 7/8" too short. Carpet will be in all these rooms. Do I need to cut off all jams and doors or try to remove part of the header, the drywall in,finished and painted. Need some advise Thanks:(:(

How did he construct walls without subflooring? You will have to cut off a little of the jambs to allow for proper installation. Now as far as your carpet you will need to determine how much space you will have left after the doors are installed to see if it will clear the carpet in complete swing, or if you will have to trim the door off. You don't have to trim the jamb for carpeting. If and when you cut your doors off, naturally cut off the bottom, mark the line squarely across the door and score the line with a razor knife. Then, using a good plywood blade, cut on the waste side of your scored line. This will keep you from splintering on the door side.

You mean finish floor, I hope. AS Chandler said, cut the bottoms. Blue tape works on the underside, too, if using a skilsaw.

If you have forced air heat, leave room for the cold air return under the door for the furnace to circulate. Be safe, G
