I have a Trane XB-10. Outside unit and air handler.
My outside unit is making a loud rattle at start and stop. It sounds like it is coming from the fan, condensor fan motor, bad bearing maybe?
How can I fix it without calling a repair man. My main concern is the electrical cable is directly attached to the condensor fan motor. (if that is even the right part.) HELP if you can.
thanks

While replacing a cond fan mtr can at times be a bit tricky, if your mechanically inclined and take your time you should have no problem.
Make sure you get the rotation of the mtr correct and try to have the blade at the same level. Replace the mtr capacitor as well if it has its own and not on a duel cap.
If your not confident in your ability don't do it, could cause more harm then good:thumbup:

Thanks. Parts are still under warranty and free service call. I will have someone take a look at it, just in case I have a wrong diagnosis.
Thanks for the input.

In a hermetic (the can) compressor, the motor is mounted on springs inside the outer shell. Some of them can clunk or rattle when stopping and starting.
Might be a loose fan motor support, too.
