I hope this is the correct place for my thread.

I have a dining room table made from what appears to be teak and walnut or possible mahogany accents. It has two drop leaves and a two leaves that can be inserted. There does not be a hard laquer/varnish finish and probably has been oiled.

We have had it for about ten years (bought used) and still looks good, but we never did anything to it.

I would like to clean it and apply a preservative coating/oil.

What are the suggestions on cleaning and protecting the piece of furniture. I am not interested in a "hard" artificial protective coating because of the beauty of the wood.

The inserable leaves are a slightly different color because they were stored under the split top.

I would suggest washing the surfaces good using TSP and wipe them dry. I suggest Watco Teak Oil for your finish. Brush it on, using fine steel wool, steel wool it into the surface, and after a half hour wipe it dry, very dry. Let it sit a couple days and repeat the process. When you have a nice even patina on the wood, your done, usually three coats. Don't make the mistake of letting it sit on the dry areas. It will be like removing gum if you leave it on too thick, always wipe it dry.
