Hello,

I have been renovating the bathroom in my new apartment and I've run into a bit of a problem with a gap between the floor and the wall that I don't know what to do with. My apartment was built in the 1940s and I wanted to keep the original tile floor but now that I have taken out all the thick wall tiles/plaster and put up the new drywall there is about a 2 inch gap between the end of the tile floor and the wall. Can anyone suggest anything that could be used to fill this gap that would be waterproof for the bathroom?

Thanks,
Sam

Is this an apartemtn that you rent or a condo that you own. Renters are not supposed to make changes to the property.

That said............what you removed was a full thick mud wall, approx. 1 1/2" of cement, wire lath, tile. So there is definitely a gap at the floor. I assume you intend to do new tile????? If yes, build the wall out so the new tile covers the floor gap. You don't have to duplicate the old craftsmans procedures. Greenboard and duroc or hardibacker will suffice. If you do not plan to retile the walls, chip out the floor tile to the first full tile and add a colorful border(fill in at the wall with a very dry mortar mix).
