I will be cutting my concrete block foundation to install a 48" x 48" gliding egress window (cutting a hole larger to account for the wood frame). Once cut I will be framing the hole with 2x10's for the jacks and sill. My question is in regards to the header. The header will rest on the jacks but does the headers need to rest horizontal or vertical and if it is vertical does it need to attached to the above mud? And if yes...how?

OK, your post made sense to a point. Yes your header will rest on the jacks. Jacks are vertical, so the header is resting vertically. Now the mystery......"does the headers need to rest horizontal or vertical" , need to work on that one for us, and what mud are you talking about?

I think it means should it be 10" tall..or 1 1/2" tall. Jeez, thats not very clear either....

The 6x? header will be vertical, narrow edges up and down. Toe nail it to the mud sill above, holding it to the exterior, so you can insulate the inside, with a 2x sleeper shimmed and flush with the bottom edge.
Be sure to have 44" or less from the finish floor to the window opening for egress (escape). Be safe, G

OK, I see GG, :wall: no the header can't lay down, it must stand up erect on top of the jacks.
