Indoor Pest Control - Squirrels in my ceiling

When The weather got cold i heard what my neighbor said was a squirrel getting a hole in my roof. I would hear him only after it got cold again I have only heard it 3 times and it's in the morning or a cold afternoon. Now it's warm most of the time and I hear nothing. Is the squirrel gone and should I plug the hole I know it got into. I'm afraid it might be there just not active. I can't even look at the place I hear him, it's in between the first floor and second floor, not in the attic. What is my best approach?

If you don't know if the squirrel is gone, I sure can't tell from here, but you do need to make sure it is. You will need a remote control camera on a wire like the plumbers or exterminators use to look into the area. The electrical wires should be inspected thoroughly. My neighbor's house burned down from just such a problem of the squirrels chewing on the wires.
