Pls send advice if you have any idea what is wrong with this thing. It's about 2 yrs old and works just perfect except that the motor (or what sounds like the motor) continues to run, as if I'm still heating food, after I'm done microwaving. No heat is expelled. Just noise.
If i'm not using the microwave, I have to keep the microwave door open at all times. If I close the door, the microwave does not turn on (no heat) but the noise (like the motor or something that sounds like the motor) runs constantly. I've kept the door open so long now that the light has died out. I called GE and they want to charge me $80 just to come out and look. Pls send advise if you have any. Thanks.

Kind of a low sound [IOW- not the magnetron or louder noise you hear when the oven is heating]? It's probably a fan cooling motor that you are hearing. Whatever controls the motor is stuck closed. Could be a relay or temperatue sensor.
