I've just had a large trex deck installed (not do it yourself) with cedar rail (trex top rail). I like the look of grey, weathered cedar but want to be a good homeowner and take care of my investment.
What's the risk in allowing the cedar to turn grey befor sealing it? And will I have already damaged the integrity by that time?
The house is green, white trim - trex is whinchester grey, so I'm not altogether against sealing the new cedar but I'm not very confortable about staining it a new color.

Welcome to the forums!
When unprotected wood turns grey - that's nature's way of giving the wood some protection. Sealing/painting over grey wood won't have as much adhesion as it will over clean wood. I'd get a stain color matched to the trex and then stain the cedar.
