So I have the old fashion windows where you open the windows buy turning the knob. I want to put an ac in that room and I would have change the windows. So I had someone come do a free estimate for installing the window, he quote me $250. $150 for the window and $100 for the install. Is that a fair price for a single hung vinyl window. The opening size height is 49 1/2in and the width is 36in. So I am just looking for a basic window nothing fancy, no add-ons. Thanks in advance.

That would prob be about right. Actually, if he's pulling the old window frame and all, it's pretty darn cheap.

That is cheap. If in a bedroom, go a little taller for egress, unless you have one already. Now is the time, not when you go to sell, and they won't call that a bedroom with a new undersized window.
Check outside, before you pay, for window head flashing, side jambs taped, trim boards caulked, interior gaps foamed (non- expanding), 1/4" gap at the head for no-bind issues later, and give him money to install the AC unit. Be safe, G
