We just moved into a 1750 sq ft house with all hardwood floors, no carpets.
But it's noisy.
We are planning on getting area rugs, and putting paintings on the walls. There is drapery in some of the rooms, but if you talk in one room, you can hear it throughout the house. There is also a 17' high ceiling in the stairwell which makes noise really carry through the house.
I'm an artist and am planning on building some large paintings throughout the house - in the living room, stairwell, and other places. I was thinking that insulation padding the back of the 2" thick canvas might help...
1. Are there carpets that would absorb sound better than others?
2. How can I cut down reflections from the 37" flat panel televison? Some kind of absorbing panels behind, perhaps? (it sits in a corner, at 45 degrees).
3. Is there a way to use rigid fiberglass, that is used for sound treatment in studios, to back paintings in the stairwell?
4. If I were to hang fabric in the stairwell (something decorative...) is there something that would absorb sound better?
