I have paint grade cabinets that are painted with a white enamel paint. They are showing some wear around the knobs and I'd like to touch them up. But how? I don't need to totally repaint the entire cabinet.

Hi Aunt B, welcome to DIY!

Of course, you don't need to paint all the entire cabinet. I'll be glad to suggest some options according with the type, style, etc.
Can you post a picture of the cabinets?

In order to set an image here follow these easy steps-->
1 - upload your picture to a free online photalbum like Photobucket (http://photobucket.com/)or Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/) , for example
2 - Look for the link of your picture (usually, photoalbums provide a "link for a forum" script)
3 - Click the image icon above--> copy the link of your picture

Has the paint worn off? or is it just dirty?
It's easier to clean the paint than it is to touch up the enamel.
Do you know what type of paint finish is on the cabinets? latex or solvent? brand?
You need to know what type of paint was used so you can use the right type, otherwise adhesion could be an issue. I doubt you could just 'touch up' around the knobs but repainting the face [or frame if a panel door] may be a viable option.
