I had gotten some great help here on a rose bush last summer that saved the little guy - hope you could help me on my vine problem.

In Central Iowa, mainly on the south side of the house, amongst flowers and shrubs, we have morning glories throughout the summer. I pull them constantly and touch up the leaves with Roundup to try to kill the roots, but they are still a huge problem.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have found over the years that once you have morning glory, you have morning glory. We inherited morning glory and eventually had to regrade and remove alot of soil. After 7 years I was still getting the occasional sprout. Morning glory seeds can live dormant in the soil for many years. The seed is very hard coated and when you disturb the soil, it brings them up to the surface and they sprout.

I've found that diligence in removing the sprouts before they flower and go to seed is about the only way to get rid of them. I haven't seen any sprouts this year (yet?) and it's been 8 years that I've been trying to remove them.

Wish I had better news.

Thanks for the response. We had fought those things on the farm in row crop for years, but when they came out with Roundup Ready beans it took care of the problem.

I'll stay on those little beggars. Maybe they'll give up and go somewhere else.
