I have what I am sure is a very elementary question, but I just don't know the answer.

I have 2 incoming lines (voice and fax) being distributed thru the house on individual runs of Cat5e. Naturally when you plug a phone with it's 4 conductor plug into the 8 conductor wall jack, the line you get on the phone is the voice line. This is fine every where in the house except for where the fax is.

At the fax location how do I access the second line? The fax machine is an HP All in One, and isn't dual line capable. When I plug the 4 conductor phone line from the fax into the 8 conductor wall outlet I can only get the first, voice line.

I know there is something really simple that I just don't know.

Thanks. :thinker:

The most convenient way is to use a 2-line adapter.

Sample here. (http://www.acehardwaresuperstore.com/ace-2-line-phone-adapter-4-conductor-p-19260.html?ref=42)

I figured it'd be that easy.

Thanks.

I believe the wall jack is for four wires . So you use two wires for voice and two for fax. I just don't remember which is which. Go to radio shack.

The wires are color coded so it should be easy to seperate the 2 pair. and remember both lines can fax and have voice , you just have to keep the phone no. seperate. go on to a web site and see how they are paired.

actually, if you are only going to be using the one jack for the fax, it would be easier to rewire that one jack so the second phone line is on the primary terminals.
