Hello we have a Briggs and Stratton engine with a horizontal shaft and flat head and pull start.
We think the engine has been sitting for 6 years.
At first if would not start with not spark, but pulled the flywheel and sanded the points and it started after that.
We went to Briggs and Stratton web site to find out what horse it is and what spart plug it uses.. Typed in the model and type and code and comes back sorry not found.....
Model 170402 type 12-15-01 code 74122011 ....
Is the type a date...
Can any one tell us what horse the engine is and what spark plug it uses. I supose maybe champion spark plug..
thank you

Your engine is a 1974 and is either a 7 or 8 hp. The spark plug originally called for a Champion J8C but has now been superseded to a J19LM. Both plugs are still available so use either.
