We just bought a house that needs quite a bit of cosmetic work. One of the things it needs is to have the tile extended into the family room. However, the tile that surrounds that room that is in the rest of the house is no longer made. What are my options?
I don't particularly like the tile that is in the rest of the house (entry, bathrooms, laundry room, kitchen, and fireplace frame), but I figured I could live with it for 3-6 years before a re-do.
I can't get the same hardwoods that we bought for the study and the living/dining room combo to get a match for wood. My budget for the family room is limited. The house is only 2 1/2 years old, so I didn't think matching the tile would be a problem--as that builder is still building in that area, but if the manufacture goes under... I know, I know. Live and learn though--I am where I am.
Any ideas on what I can do in that room? I DO NOT want carpet--it's a lot of wear and tear and I have a child with respiratory issues.
Any ideas?

I have 2 suggestions I can make. Go with a tile that is in contrast but complimentary to what you already have in place. If you kinda, sorta, try to match the existing tile and it doesn't match it will look like a failed patch job. If you go with something sufficiently different it will look like you did it on purpose as an aesthetic effect!
Second option is to go with a mid cost wall-to-wall carpet in a color which will compliment the existing tile and wood floors.
Good luck!
