For a reasonably handy diyer which is easier to install, a pre hung exterior door or just replace the door itself. I am a little concerned about fitting a prehung because of the alum siding. Doesn't look like I have any fudge room to adjust the opening. I've hung interior doors, but never an exterior door. After I removed the storm door and frame, I noticed the siding is RIGHT up to the frame and I don't really know what's behind the siding.

If your door has brick mold attached, now, a new door will fit into the same opening. I would opt if at all possible to install a new prehung door. Measure your existing door on the outside, including the brick mold. Then go to a door store and measure the door of your choice to see if it is the same size. Brick mold can always be modified in the opening to accommodate differences in siding, but you shouldn't have to. Let us know what you find out.

Removed casing inside, a little plaster and found the stud framing for the doorway. A pre-hung will fit just find and I'm glad you urged me to go that way. I will have to rip some boards to meet dimensions. Yay! table saw. Looks like the alum siding will not hinder the job. I'll have to replace the outside & inside trim but that's okay. That's what miter saws are for. :) Thanks Chandler.
