I want to build a table for my router. I was going to go with a melamine surfaced particleboard, but no one in town carries anything surfaced with melamine. One local guy said plain MDF would hold up. I'm skeptical. If not melamine, what else can I use?
By the way, I tried laminating formica to MDF. It didn't stick very well to the edges and (like a dumbass) I tried to pull it off and try again and, surprise, I cracked the formica. Back to square one........
Help!

Google New Yankee Workshop. Norm built one not long ago and has the plans available. It is the best one I have seen, either stick built or commercially built.

Go to New Yankee Workshop - New Yankee Workshop Collection - Deluxe Router Station (http://www.newyankee.com/getproduct.php?0301) to view it. It is one of my projects that will take place "some day".

Wow. That's a GREAT router table - I think I may have seen him build that on his show. That is definitely one of those "one day" projects. Like, one day when I've actually learned that level of skill.......
In any event, it turns out after a dozen calls around town our local Menard's carries 4X6 sheets of particle board laminated with melamine. Just the ticket - and half the price that I paid for the materials I bought for the first, ill-fated, top.
