Outdoor Power Equipment and Small Engines - Primer Yard Machines 4.5 HP mower broken

Hi
The primer button on my mower burst and I can't prime it any more to start my mower.
I see that the sun damaged it.
I saw some red residues inside, I don't know if its part of the rubber button or some kind of glue.
Can I start the mower without priming it?
Can I replace just the push red button(rubber?)
The push button come attached to the filter.
Do I have to buy the whole thing? (primer and filter)
Please help!
My lawn is now 3' tall!
I bought a machete to get to my house but in the long run I think is cheaper to fix the mower.

Post the engine model, type and code from the engine shroud and someone will get you the part number. Have a good one. Geo

like said the engine model will help. the primers are mounted to the carb on those machines. the carb is only like $25 so its cheap. i can tell by the HP and brand that it has the carb/tank combination. im betting the engine model starts with 10A902 correct?

We don't need the mower model number, we need the engine model, type and code usually found on the engine shroud just above the spark plug. Have a good one. Geo

Primer bulbs are replaceable, no matter what engine you have, but the engine #s would help.

I found this in the engine: Family 3BXS.1581VG 25738

There should be a plastic retainer ring holding the primer in place. Push the tabs in from the sides to release it from the housing, and pull it out. Replace the bulb and push the retainer back in place over the new bulb until it snaps in like it was.

it was not easy!

The part is only 3 or 4 dollars.. Do you not have a small engine shop locally?? Hundreds of places online if you look for them, but it's always kind of nice to support the local guys so they are there when you need them... Just a thought.. Roger

I JUST FIXED MY MOWER!!!
I found the part online (Order Tree)and it cost me $ 2.65 plus shipping ...it took long time to arrive, more than a week and they sent it via regular mail and it came in a big box!!A small button in a big box???
It could easily fit in a regular envelope and save me some money!!
Oh well
My whole cost after shipping was $10.38.

Yes. it is nice to shop locally but I have found out that this especialized shops overcharge for the part and it is not likely that they would have this part.
They would have to order it for me and I would end up paying more.
I don't like to shop online (I am scared of all those hackers) and I'd love to pay cash like the old times but we are in 2009 and this the way it has to be: shop online.

what hop meant by taking it to a shop is look up the part number online and take that info to the shop and see if they carry the part. that's what i do unless its a part i know they most likely won't carry.
