I was having a problem with the blower on my Trane furnace so I opened the blower compartment to take a look. What I saw was the blower unit sitting on the floor - it wasn't secured in any way to the furnace and on further inspection it doesn't appear that this is possible, i.e. there are no screw holes or clips to attach the unit. I would have expected to see the blower fit snugly to the lower opening (this is an upflow unit) of the furnace. I am sure it didn't "fall off" and I have had this unit serviced a number of times by a very reputable company. Any insight from anyone on this? For the record, the model # on this unit is TUC100B948A0.
Thanks for all responses.
P.S. The noise I heard was the blower wheel breaking apart - pretty easy fix.

The fan houseing should be attached to the bottom of hole above it somehow. It sounds like at a min. you need a fan wheel, and you should check the motor after you take the wheel off.
