What a great resource! I am in the process of sewing tab top drapes. At least that is what I 'think' I am doing. The first window is very large and I realize I am going to need a rod/pole that is about 124" wide. My first question is, can I mount this rod/pole with one center bracket (obviously using the proper anchors)? Next, I have read that tab drapes should not be routinely opened and closed. These are for a lake place. they would be opened when we arrive and closed when we leave (usually on weekends). Are tabbed drapes the right type of drape for this situation? I wanted a more casual look to the window. If I should change design scheme, at this time, what would you suggest as a change? At this point I have cut the fabric but not yet sewn anything together. I realized I needed to decide on the rod before proceeding with the tabs.

Hi and welcome to the forum! As for the rod, it's best to put a center bracket about every 40 to 50", but since you need to close the panels, you don't have a choice. A thick rod or iron rod would be best so it doesn't start to sag.
As for the tab tops, it's not that you shouldn't use them, it's that they don't open and close easily. Rings or grommets are best for opening and closing, but since you say you already cut the fabric, you may not have enough fabric to choose a different style.
A couple tips to make them easier to open and close (if you go ahead with the tabs) rub the rod with paste wax or spray silicone spray on it and use a baton to help slide them or buy shower curtain rings with the ball bearings, and sew them under the tabs.
