I've finished stripping an old mahogany desk, and I like the weathered/stressed look it has right now, so rather than stain/oil/wax to achieve a perfect shiny finish, I just want to do something to bring a little lustre and protect the wood.
I'm looking for some advice. Should I just go straight to some wood oil, and if so what kind? Thanks

Mahogony looks best with a loving application of MANY coats of shellac, but shellac does a poor job of protecting that georgeous wood from modern problems. Poly is probably the best in terms of protection, and done right it can rival shellac or lacquer. I am restoring a 36 Plymouth woody, with 9-12 coats of marine poly on the ash, cherry, russian birch, looks like glass. But mahogony is in a class by itself, and an old desk deserves the best. So, you are on your own, it is your desk, do with it as you want. But be gentle.

Numerous options. depends on the look/finish your after.
Go with a protective coating and dont stain it. Mahagony has a beautiful grain, texture.
