I'm planning on using 45/45 spring angle crown, 4.5 inch wide and will be using a 12 inch compound miter saw.
What angles should the saw be set at to cut the face profile of the molding so I can make the cope cut with the coping saw. A chart I'm reading says I should be using a miter angle of 35.3 and a blade tilt of 30.0 for 45/45 spring angle crown for a 90 degree corner. Am I interpreting this chart correctly?

Your'e correct with the angles, holding the molding flat on the bed of the saw. I'm not sure how many do it, but I work counterclockwise in a room. Could be because of a bad left knee, not sure. No, really, it allows me to run flat molding to the corner, cope the left piece and drive the nail with my right hand. Once you cut this miter, as indicated on the chart, back cut it with the coping saw along the profile provided by the cut. I am sure you must be using the chart here Cutting Crown Molding with DEWALT Miter Saws, DEWALT.com (http://www.dewalt.com/us/articles/article.asp?Site=woodworking&ID=2), but if not it is a good one.
